The 10th Flower Expo has developed a series of original "unconventional" construction schemes, breaking through the design paradigm of existing horticultural exhibition buildings. Among them, the Flower Museum highlights the natural and smooth shape and delicate and rich texture of bamboo weaving.
The" Bamboo and Rattan Pavilion" is the smallest pavilion among the permanent venues of the Flower Expo. It is located in the Bamboo and Rattan Garden on the west side of the main axis of the Flower Expo. Through the cooperation of architects, structural engineers and craftsmen, the venue has developed a series of original "unconventional" construction schemes in the use of materials and construction techniques, breaking through the design paradigm of existing horticultural exhibition buildings. We call this design practice "unusual regulation".
The design seeks the shape from the bamboo utensils, combined with the theme of the flower expo, selects "cocoon" as the prototype, takes the meaning of "breaking the cocoon into a butterfly", and intends to weave the layered shape, highlighting the natural and smooth shape and delicate and rich texture of the woven bamboo utensils, allowing The venue itself becomes a craft exhibit in the bamboo garden landscape.
Similar to the bamboo ware that generates the space and form as a container through the weaving process, this design hopes to construct the form and functional space of the venue through the weaving of architectural scale and constructiveness, thus realizing the same morphological and spatial logic as the bamboo ware. structure.
The design sinks the ground of the courtyard one layer, and the annular ramp follows the weaving surface and slowly sinks from west to east, which strengthens the momentum of the space to meander along the weaving surface, and combines the visiting path with the flow of the weaving interface to form A unique experience of roaming through the woven surface.
Using parametric design, we tried a three-dimensional weaving method in which the cross weaving units are gradually twisted from the plane to the normal direction of the surface, forming a spatially weaving surface with spatial depth changes and strong light and shadow effects. From the craft bamboo utensils between square inches to a permanent building with a span of 30 meters, based on the construction level, the steel structure skeleton as the main force-bearing unit and the bamboo filling components as the additional force-bearing unit are distinguished. Utensils - the scale conversion of the building, and the structural expression of steel and bamboo in line with the characteristics of their respective materials.
Because the design of the Bamboo and Rattan Pavilion requires the bamboo weaving to achieve the effect of "thin as a cicada's wings", it is necessary to maintain the original strength and toughness of the bamboo material to ensure sufficient bending. In this way, the selection of bamboo materials is particularly strict. Since the project is of a construction nature and the main material is used outdoors, the product must also meet the requirements of mildew-proof, anti-corrosion, and fire-proof grade B1.
