Key Points to Note When CNC Machining Epoxy Boards:

Tool Selection

Epoxy boards are highly abrasive—avoid standard metal-cutting tools. Use tungsten carbide or multi-layer diamond-coated tools instead, or they’ll wear out instantly. Recommended spindle speed: 8,000–15,000 RPM. Keep feed rates moderate; otherwise, edges may chip.

Secure Workholding

The material is springy and prone to shifting during machining. Use vacuum suction + double-sided tape for redundancy, and clamp the edges with fixtures for added stability.

Cooling

No coolant needed, but blast compressed air aggressively to cool the cutting zone. Focus on the tool contact point—overheating softens the resin, causing gumming and ragged edges sharp enough to double as a saw.

Toolpath Strategy

Keep cutting depth under 2mm; opt for layered milling for safety. Slow down before corners. Climb milling reduces lifting forces compared to conventional milling.

Dust Control

Epoxy resin dust is hazardous when inhaled. Wear a respirator and use a dust collector! Clean the board with alcohol after machining.
