POM rod (Polyoxymethylene Rod) is a rod-shaped engineering plastic formed by extrusion or injection molding with polyoxymethylene (POM) as the base material. POM is a linear polymer polymerized by formaldehyde under the action of a catalyst. Its molecular chain is composed of repeated -CH₂-O- units and has a highly regular crystalline structure (crystallinity is as high as 75%-85%). According to the different polymerization methods, POM can be divided into homopolyoxymethylene (POM-H) and copolymer polyoxymethylene (POM-C):
Homopolyoxymethylene (POM-H): It is polymerized by a single formaldehyde monomer. There is no stable group at the end of the molecular chain. It shows higher rigidity, hardness and creep resistance, but slightly lower impact resistance;
Copolymer polyoxymethylene (POM-C): It is formed by copolymerization of trioxymethylene and a small amount of dioxolane. The end of the molecular chain contains a stable group (such as an ester bond). It has better impact resistance, but slightly inferior rigidity and creep resistance. POM rods combine the characteristics of high rigidity, low friction coefficient, excellent dimensional stability, etc., and are widely used in precision machinery, automotive parts, electronic and electrical fields, becoming an indispensable functional material in high-end equipment manufacturing.
