ABS Sheet (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Sheet) is a sheet-shaped engineering plastic formed by extrusion or injection molding with ABS resin as the base material. ABS is a terpolymer formed by emulsion polymerization or graft copolymerization of three monomers: acrylonitrile (Acrylonitrile, A), butadiene (Butadiene, B) and styrene (Styrene, S). It has the chemical resistance and high strength of acrylonitrile, the high toughness and impact resistance of butadiene, and the excellent processability and rigidity of styrene. In its molecular structure, the acrylonitrile component forms a polar main chain (—[CH₂—CH(CN)]—), which gives the material chemical resistance and thermal stability; the butadiene component forms a rubber phase (—[CH₂—CH=CH—CH₂]—), which provides impact resistance by dispersing in the continuous phase; the styrene component forms a rigid non-polar main chain (—[CH₂—CH(C₆H₅)]—), which ensures the high rigidity and easy processing of the material.
ABS sheets can be divided into extruded sheets (thickness ≥ 2 mm) and injection molded sheets (thickness ≤ 2 mm) according to the production process, and can be divided into general-purpose ABS sheets, high-impact ABS sheets (HIPS modified), flame-retardant ABS sheets (adding bromine or phosphorus flame retardants) and heat-resistant ABS sheets (adding α-methylstyrene copolymers) according to their uses. Since its industrial production in the 1950s, ABS sheets have been widely used in automobiles, electronics, architectural decoration and other fields with their balanced mechanical properties, easy processing and low cost, becoming an indispensable general-purpose engineering plastic in modern manufacturing.
Application fields
Automobile and transportation
Dashboard frame: High-impact ABS sheet is used for the base of automobile dashboard (such as Volkswagen and Toyota models), and its impact resistance ensures that there is no fragmentation during collision;
Door panel lining: GF10% reinforced ABS sheet is used for door lining (such as Mercedes-Benz C-Class), and its dimensional stability ensures that there is no deformation during long-term use.
Bumper support beam: Heat-resistant ABS sheet is used for the internal support structure of the bumper (such as Ford F-150), with excellent high temperature resistance (continuous use temperature 80-100℃) and weather resistance;
Rearview mirror housing: Electroplated ABS sheet is used for the rearview mirror housing (such as BMW and Audi models), with high surface gloss and corrosion resistance.
Electronics and home appliances
TV back cover: Flame-retardant ABS sheet (UL94 V-0 grade) is used for LCD TV back cover (such as Samsung and LG models), and its flame retardancy meets international safety standards;
Computer case panel: GF20% reinforced ABS sheet is used for desktop computer case (such as Dell and HP models), with strength ≥50 MPa and wear resistance.
Refrigerator liner: High-gloss ABS sheet is used for refrigerator refrigerator panel (such as Haier and Midea models), with surface gloss ≥90 GU (mirror effect);
Washing machine control panel: Heat-resistant ABS sheet is used for washing machine button bracket (such as Little Swan and Panasonic models), with long-term temperature resistance of 80℃ without deformation. 3.3. Architecture and decoration
Indoor decorative wall panels: ABS sheets are used for wall decoration in shopping malls and hotels (such as Wanda Plaza and Hilton Hotel), and wood grain or stone grain patterns can be printed on the surface;
Advertising signs: High-gloss ABS sheets are used for outdoor billboards (such as subway station advertisements), and weather resistance (with anti-UV agent added) guarantees 3-5 years of non-fading.
Building formwork: GF15% reinforced ABS sheets are used for concrete casting formwork (such as Vanke and Country Garden projects), and the number of cycles is ≥30;
Roof insulation board: Flame-retardant ABS sheets are used for lightweight roof insulation layers (such as prefabricated houses), and the thermal conductivity is ≤0.2 W/(m·K).
Industrial equipment and civil facilities
CNC machine tool protection cover: Heat-resistant ABS sheet is used for CNC machine tool protection door (such as Shenyang Machine Tool), with excellent high temperature resistance (continuous use temperature 80-100℃) and oil resistance;
Robot shell: GF20% reinforced ABS sheet is used for industrial robot arms (such as ABB, KUKA models), with strength ≥60 MPa and lightweight.
Toolbox shell: High-impact ABS sheet is used for toolbox body (such as Bosch tools), and the impact resistance ensures no damage when falling;
Furniture decorative strips: ABS sheet is used for sofa and wardrobe decorative frames (such as IKEA furniture), and the surface can be electroplated or sprayed.
