Alginate Wound Dressing is a medical dressing made from natural fibers extracted from algae, primarily used for treating acute and chronic wounds with moderate to large amounts of exudate. It forms a gel through calcium-sodium ion exchange, maintaining a moist healing environment and exhibiting high water absorption capacity (able to absorb 17–20 times its own weight in liquid), hemostasis, wound healing promotion, and pain relief. It is commonly used for diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, burns, post-operative wounds, and exudative wounds such as donor sites.

This dressing is provided in a sterile state and is intended for single use, usually requiring the use of a secondary dressing for fixation. It is not suitable for dry, scabbed, or deep cavity wounds deeper than 0.5cm. Before use, ensure that the wound has been thoroughly debrided. Some products contain silver ions to enhance antibacterial effects, and care should be taken to consider any history of allergies when using them.
