PP Bar Polypropylene Rods Natural color pp rod
PP Rod (Polypropylene Rod) is a thermoplastic plastic rod made of polypropylene (PP) resin through extrusion process. Polypropylene is a semi-crystalline polymer material, which is produced by coordination polymerization or free radical polymerization of propylene monomer (CH₂=CHCH₃). Its molecular chain contains methyl side groups (-CH₃), which gives the material unique physical and chemical properties. The surface of PP rod is smooth and flat (roughness Ra<0.2μm), the color is uniform (commonly milky white, gray, support customized color), the density is as low as -0.91g/cm³ (about 90% of water), the diameter range is usually 15mm to 400mm, and the length can be customized according to demand (usually 1 meter). Depending on the molecular structure and additives, PP rods can be divided into homopolymer polypropylene rods (high rigidity, low impact resistance), copolymer polypropylene rods (high impact resistance, low-temperature toughness) and reinforced polypropylene rods (adding glass fiber or mineral fillers to improve strength and heat resistance). They are widely used in chemical containers, food packaging, mechanical parts and civilian products.

Product advantages
Lightweight and low cost
The density of PP rods is only 0.91g/cm³ (about 1/7 of steel and 1/2 of aluminum), which significantly reduces weight and transportation costs while meeting structural strength requirements. For example, in automotive interior parts (such as dashboard brackets and door panel linings), the unit weight cost of PP rods is 40%-50% lower than ABS; in the field of logistics pallets, PP pallets are 60% lighter than wooden pallets and 80% lighter than metal pallets, greatly reducing loading and unloading and transportation energy consumption (energy consumption per ton of cargo transportation is reduced by 15%-20%); in civilian plastic products (such as trash cans and storage boxes), PP rods are easy to process (short injection molding cycle) and low cost (the price of raw materials is only 1/3-1/2 of engineering plastics) making it the preferred material for large-scale production.
Excellent chemical corrosion resistance
PP rods are stable to most acid, alkali, salt solutions and organic solvents (no significant swelling when the concentration is less than 30%), but are not resistant to concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid and halogenated hydrocarbons, making them ideal materials for chemical storage tanks, laboratory utensils and food processing equipment. For example, in the sulfuric acid dilution tank of a chemical company, the stirring paddle made of PP rods can resist the corrosion of 5%-10% sulfuric acid solution (service life> 5 years); in the reactor seals of pharmaceutical factories, its non-toxicity (in compliance with FDA standards) and chemical resistance ensure the safety of drug production (no impurity dissolution); in the drain basket of the family kitchen, PP rods resist long-term corrosion from detergent and hot water (no deformation or discoloration), and the service life is> 10 years.
Excellent insulation and weather resistance
The volume resistivity ≥10¹⁵Ω·cm makes PP rods an ideal choice for low-voltage electrical insulation components (such as switch housings, junction boxes); the weather resistance after adding anti-UV agent (no obvious aging after more than 5 years of outdoor use) expands its application in outdoor facilities (such as billboard brackets, garden fences). For example, in solar photovoltaic bracket systems, connectors made of PP rods resist ultraviolet radiation and wind and rain erosion (service life > 25 years); in the cable fixing troughs of communication base stations, its insulation (dielectric strength 20-30kV/mm) and weather resistance ensure stable signal transmission (no leakage risk); in the design of outdoor trash cans, the weather resistance and corrosion resistance of PP rods (resistance to rain and garbage corrosion) reduce maintenance costs (replace every 5 years, ordinary metal trash cans need to be painted every year for corrosion protection).
Easy processing and high recyclability
The characteristics of melting temperature of 160-170℃ and molding shrinkage of 1.0%-2.5% enable PP rods to be efficiently processed through extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming and other processes (the injection molding cycle is more than 80% shorter than metal casting), and waste materials can be 100% recycled and reused (recycling rate > 95%), which complies with the EU RoHS environmental protection directive and the concept of circular economy. For example, in plastic pipe manufacturers, PP rod scraps can be crushed and re-made into granules (the proportion of recycled materials can reach 30%-50%), reducing raw material costs (the price of each ton of recycled materials is only 60%-70% of that of new materials); in the automotive manufacturing field, the recycling rate of PP bumpers is >90% (through melting and re-granulation for the manufacture of interior parts), reducing carbon emissions (each ton of recycled PP reduces CO2 emissions by about 1.5 tons); in the production of civilian plastic products (such as plastic chairs and storage boxes), the easy processing of PP rods (injection mold life >100,000 times) and low scrap rate (<2%) improve production efficiency (energy consumption per unit product is reduced by 30%-40%).
