UV Transparent PC Polycarbonate Sheet
Core Advantages
Superior Impact Resistance
World-Leading Impact Strength: PC sheets offer 250 times the impact resistance of ordinary glass, 30 times that of acrylic (PMMA), and 20 times that of tempered glass. Their simply supported beam unnotched impact strength reaches 800-1200 J/m (compared to approximately 40 J/m for ordinary glass). Even in extremely cold environments (-40°C), they maintain exceptional toughness and resist the brittle cracking of glass.
Unbreakable: When subjected to external impact, PC sheets typically bend rather than crack. Even if they do break, they form small, blunt-angled particles (similar to plastic fragments), significantly reducing the risk of injury to people and equipment. This characteristic makes them an ideal safety alternative to glass, widely used in safety-critical environments.
Excellent Optical Performance
High Light Transmittance: Ordinary PC sheet has a light transmittance of 85%-92% (close to the 90%-92% of glass). Special optical-grade PC sheets (such as anti-fog and anti-glare grades) have even higher transmittances, exceeding 95%, ensuring clear light transmission and a visual effect virtually indistinguishable from glass.
Low Haze: High-quality PC sheets have a haze of less than 1% (compared to approximately 3%-5% for ordinary glass). This reduces light scattering and produces clear images, making them suitable for applications requiring high optical quality (such as greenhouse lighting and display windows).
UV Protection: A co-extruded UV coating (approximately 50μm thick) blocks over 99% of UV rays (UV-A and UV-B), protecting indoor items (such as exhibits, furniture, and plants) from UV aging and discoloration, while also providing protection for human skin.
Lightweight Design
Low Density: PC sheets have a density of only 1.2 g/cm³ (glass is 2.5 g/cm³, and acrylic is 1.19 g/cm³ (but is weaker), weighing approximately half as much as glass of the same thickness (for example, a 6mm PC sheet weighs approximately 7.2 kg/m², while 6mm glass weighs approximately 15 kg/m²). This feature significantly reduces installation difficulty, transportation costs, and building load-bearing burdens.
Weather and Aging Resistance
UV and Aging Resistance: The UV coating ensures that PC sheets maintain their light transmittance and stable physical properties even during long-term outdoor use, preventing yellowing, embrittlement, and chalking. High and Low Temperature Resistance: Continuous operating temperature range is -40°C to +120°C (short-term resistance to 150°C). It will not become brittle or crack in extremely cold regions, nor soften or deform in high temperatures (glass may explode above 70°C, while acrylic softens above 80°C).
Comprehensive Weather Resistance: Passing multiple tests for UV resistance, high and low temperature resistance, wind and rain erosion resistance, and other properties, it is suitable for various global climates and has a service life of up to 10-20 years.
Processability and Design Flexibility
Easy Processing and Forming: It can be formed into a variety of shapes (such as arcs, trapezoids, and triangles) through processes such as hot bending (free-formed by heating to 150-180°C), cold bending (cold forming, suitable for small radius bends), cutting, drilling, milling, and stamping, meeting the creative needs of architects (such as special-shaped roofs, skylights, and artistic curtain walls). Splicable Installation: Supports multiple installation methods, including screw fixing, sealant bonding, and snap-on connections. Specialized aluminum alloy strips or sealing strips allow for seamless splicing between panels, ensuring waterproof, dustproof, and aesthetically pleasing performance (suitable for large greenhouses and skylights).
Fireproof and Safety Performance
High Flame Retardancy: Ordinary PC panels have a UL94 V-2 flame retardancy rating (self-extinguishing upon removal from fire). By adding flame retardants, this rating can be raised to V-0 (completely non-flammable). Combustion produces no toxic gases (complying with building material fire safety standards).
Safety: Even when softened by heat (approximately 150°C), it will not shatter like glass, but will instead slowly deform and sag (especially suitable for skylights in public buildings, schools, hospitals, and other places).
Environmental Protection and Health
Non-toxic and Odorless: No harmful substances (such as heavy metals or formaldehyde) are added during the production process. This material complies with international environmental standards, including the FDA (Food Contact Safety) and RoHS (RoHS Directive). It can be used in direct food contact (such as greenhouse-grown organic vegetables) or in health-sensitive applications such as healthcare and education.
Recyclable: Wasted PC boards can be reprocessed into plastic pellets through specialized recycling equipment and used in the manufacture of other plastic products, reducing environmental pollution (in line with the concept of a circular economy).
