Key Design Rules for ABS:
Uniform Wall Thickness: Aim for 2.0 mm to 3.0 mm. This prevents sinks, warpage, and internal stresses.
Draft Angles: Essential for ejection. Use a minimum of 1° on all walls perpendicular to the mold's opening direction. Increase for textured surfaces.
Ribs: Use to add strength without thick walls. Rib thickness should be ~50-60% of the main wall thickness.
Fillets and Radii: Round all sharp corners (inside and out) to reduce stress concentration and improve flow.
Undercuts: Design them out if possible. If needed, plan for side-actions or lifters in the mold, which increase tooling cost.
