The designation “DX54D + Z90” refers to a hot-dip galvanized steel substrate according to EN 10346, where “DX54D” specifies the steel grade and “Z90” indicates the zinc coating mass. ‌Steel Grade DX54D‌ is defined as a deep-drawing grade for cold forming. Its mechanical properties typically include a yield strength (Re) of 140–220 MPa, tensile strength (Rm) of 270–350 MPa, and an elongation (A80) of ≥36%. These properties are achieved through a specific chemical composition (low C, Al-killed) and processing (continuous annealing), ensuring excellent formability for complex shapes without cracking. ‌Coating Designation Z90‌ signifies a total zinc coating mass of 90 g/m² per side (minimum average value per EN 10346). This is often expressed commercially as “Z90” or “90/90” (both sides). The coating structure consists of a pure zinc layer (eta phase) and an iron-zinc alloy layer (delta and gamma phases). A Z90 coating provides a baseline corrosion protection, with the time to red rust onset in standard atmospheric environments estimated theoretically based on zinc's sacrificial protection (approx. 1.4 μm/year zinc loss in rural atmosphere). For prepainted applications (PPGI), this substrate undergoes chemical pretreatment (e.g., chromate-free conversion coating) to ensure paint adhesion. The combination of DX54D's formability and Z90's corrosion resistance makes it suitable for applications requiring moderate forming and standard corrosion protection, such as certain appliance panels, indoor structural parts, or components that will receive additional coating (e.g., post-painting). It is less common for severe forming (where DX54D+Z60 might be used) or highly corrosive environments (where higher coating masses like Z180 or aluminum-zinc coated AZ150 are preferred)
