Crinkle-textured pre-painted steel (PPGI/PPGL) is manufactured through a continuous coil coating process where a galvanized (GI) or aluminum-zinc alloy-coated (GL) substrate undergoes chemical pretreatment, followed by roller application of a textured coating formulation containing rheology modifiers and matting agents. The coating is cured at temperatures between 200–220°C, forming a uniform crinkle pattern with a typical peak-to-valley height of 15–60 μm. This texture increases surface hardness (≥2H pencil hardness) and reduces visible scratches during handling and installation. The coating system consists of a chromate-free conversion layer, epoxy primer (5–8 μm), and textured polyester topcoat (20–30 μm dry film thickness). Substrate specifications include minimum coating weights of Z120 (GI) or AZ150 (GL) and yield strengths of 250–350 MPa. Performance characteristics include adhesion (cross-cut test ≥Gt1 per ISO 2409), impact resistance (≥9 J), and accelerated weathering resistance (≥1500 h QUV-B with ΔE ≤3). The textured surface exhibits lower gloss (≤30 GU at 60°) and diffuses light reflection, reducing glare. Installation requires attention to directional alignment of the texture pattern for visual consistency. The product is intended for architectural cladding applications such as roofing, wall panels, and interior partitions, and should be installed in accordance with relevant wind load and thermal movement calculations. Fabrication guidelines recommend minimum bend radii of 4× material thickness (4T) to prevent coating cracking.
