Urapidil Hydrochloride (CAS 64887-14-5) is a clinically important small-molecule drug for hypertension management. Its synonyms include Urapidil HCl and MFCD00078601, with the IUPAC Name 6-(3-(4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazin-1-yl)propylamino)-1,3-dimethylpyrimidine-2,4-dione;hydrochloride.

Chemically, it has a molecular formula of C₂₀H₃₀ClN₅O₃ (molecular weight 423.94 g/mol), appearing as a white to off-white solid. Soluble in water and DMSO, it is suitable for oral and injectable formulations, with a pyrimidine-2,4-dione core critical to its activity.

Pharmacologically, it acts as a selective α₁-adrenoceptor antagonist and 5-HT₁A receptor agonist. Peripherally, it dilates blood vessels by blocking α₁-receptors; centrally, it regulates the cardiovascular center, reducing blood pressure without significant reflex tachycardia.

Clinically, it is used for hypertensive emergencies, severe refractory hypertension, perioperative hypertension, and related heart failure. Available in oral and injectable formulations, it is in China’s National Essential Medicines List (2018) and Category B medical insurance.

For storage, keep it sealed at 4°C away from moisture; dissolved solvent samples can be stored at -80°C (6 months) or -20°C (1 month). Do not mix with alkaline solutions.
