Slag Blocking
The slag stopper cone is a specialized refractory consumable used for tapping in converter steelmaking. Steel tapping slag cone is manufactured by high-pressure molding of magnesium-based/aluminum-carbon composite raw materials and then fired at high temperatures. Converter slag cone consists of a conical head and a guide rod. A loading machine is required to load the slag-stopping cone into the furnace. The conical head features grooves that break up vortices in the steel flow, separating the slag from the molten steel. This effectively prevents slag-borne phosphorus re-entry and improves the purity of the molten steel. It is widely used in various converter steelmaking production lines.

Industrial Slag Blocking
During the middle to late stages of converter tapping, when only a small amount of molten steel remains in the furnace, the slag-stopping cone is inserted into the tapping nozzle via a loading device;
The slag-blocking cone relies on its own weight and guide ribs for positioning, quickly sealing the tapping hole to isolate the slag from the molten steel;
After the entire charge of molten steel has been tapped, the slag-blocking cone remains in the tapping hole and naturally melts at high temperatures during the next smelting cycle, eliminating the need for additional slag removal.
