Boiled wool is named after what happens to it. Once the cloth comes off the knitting machine, we run it through controlled heat, moisture and agitation until the wool fibres swell, tangle and lock into one another. The knit pulls in. The surface felts over. What comes out is denser, warmer and far steadier than what went in — and none of it is coated or bonded. The hand you feel is the fibre itself, which is why boiled wool ages the way good wool should instead of flattening out after a season.
Wool does the work you expect: warmth, loft, breathability, that dry natural touch. Viscose does the work people forget about. It softens the surface, adds drape so the cloth falls instead of standing, and it takes dye beautifully — which is why our shades come out clean and saturated rather than dusty. Put together, you get a knit wool boiled fabric that can hold a shoulder line without feeling like armour, and still sit comfortably against the skin.
Because the fibres are locked together, the edges don't fray. A lot of our customers skip overlocking entirely and let a raw edge become part of the design — one of the reasons this works so well as a hoodie coat fabric. Overcoats, car coats, oversized hoodies, unlined blazers, capes, structured bags and hats: the cloth keeps its shape through the season, and keeps it after washing.
Jiangyin Shanglin Textile knits, boils, dyes and finishes under one roof, and we inspect every roll ourselves — burr and vegetable matter removed, foreign fibre checked, shade and weight verified before anything ships. That also means the fabric isn't fixed. Send us a Pantone and we'll match it. Need more wool for a colder market, or more viscose for a softer hand and a tighter cost? We'll shift the ratio and re-run the sample until it's right. Development quantities and bulk production are both welcome.
Owning the process is also what lets us prove it. This boiled wool fabric is available to GRS (Global Recycled Standard) and RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) — RWS covering wool traced back to farms audited for animal welfare and land management, GRS covering recycled content with verified chain of custody through every stage we run in-house. Because the knitting, boiling and dyeing all happen here, the paper trail doesn't break halfway down a subcontractor chain. Transaction certificates are issued per order, so the claim you make to your own customers is one you can document.
