Chlorhexidine Cas:55-56-1 (also known as Hibitane), chemically 1,6-bis(p-chlorophenyldiguanido)hexane,Synonyms: Chlorhexidine, Chlorhexidine Base, 1,1'-Hexamethylenebis[5-(4-chlorophenyl)biguanide], is a cationic surfactant with a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect. It is a well-recognized disinfectant/antiseptic, showing stronger antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria than benzalkonium bromide. Carrying a positive charge, when used for mouth rinsing it adsorbs onto negatively charged dental plaque and the oral mucosa surface, from where the adsorbed drug gradually releases and maintains a sustained effect; the concentration in saliva decreases after 24 hours. It adsorbs onto the permeation barrier of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane, causing leakage of intracellular contents — bacteriostatic at low concentrations, bactericidal at high concentrations. Chlorhexidine Base CAS NO.:55-56-4-1 is off white crystalline powder and should be keep in a clean, cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse.
