The solid casing centralizer is a vital component used to center the casing in the wellbore, and it comes in two main types: spiral vane solid centralizer and straight vane solid centralizer. These centralizers are constructed from solid steel bars, cast iron, or other robust materials with fixed blade heights, and they are specifically sized to fit particular casing or hole sizes cementing tool.
The features of solid casing centralizers include:
a. Transformation of slipping friction to rolling friction, reducing friction and enabling the casing to smoothly move to the desired position.
b. Removal of wellbore cake and improvement of mud replacement efficiency.
c. Superior wear resistance.
d. Functional throughout the life of the well.
e. Ability to aid in casing/tubing retrieval.
f. Roller/axle relationship designed to ensure that axle shear stresses remain within elastic limits, preventing permanent deformation.
g. Axles are crimped in place to eliminate the welding process, ensuring the rollers cannot be broken and fall into the wellbore.
h. High-pressure and high-temperature resistance due to the use of high-quality materials.
During installation, roller centralizers can be installed on the casing with stop collars or integral set screws. Installations that allow casing rotation and reciprocation are preferred for improved displacement efficiency. It's important to note that most slip-on rigid centralizers must be installed between stop collars and are freely floating there.
