Aluminium Sulfate is an inorganic substance with chemical formula Al2(SO4)3, molecular weight 342.15, white crystalline powder.It is used as a flocculant in the treatment of drinking water, industrial water and industrial wastewater.It also used as precipitant of rosin gum, wax emulsion and other gums in papermaking industry, as Flocculant in Water Treatment, and also can be used as internal retention agent of foam fire extinguisher, raw material for manufacturing alum and aluminium white, raw material for petroleum decolouring, deodorant and medicine, etc. It can also be used to manufacture artificial gemstone and high-grade ammonium alum.
Application of Aluminium Sulfate in water treatment
Aluminium sulphate is widely used in paper making, water treatment, textile printing and dyeing, fire-fighting, tanning and so on. In water treatment aluminium sulphate is used in water supply, sewage (wastewater) water treatment with the longest history, is one of the most widely used inorganic flocculants.
Aluminium sulfate is mainly used in the process of sewage treatment for the depth treatment of sewage and sludge conditioning, the general dosage is large, which will increase the amount of sludge, and can be used in combination with other flocculants, such as polyaluminium chloride, to reduce the dosage. The dosage method is continuous, and the mixing method is generally pipeline mixer, mixing pool mixing, pump mixing, static mixer mixing and so on. The dosage needs to be determined according to different sewage water quality, through the beaker experiment.
In general, Aluminium sulfate is suitable for pH 6.0-7.8, when the pH is 4-7, to remove organic matter in the water; when the pH is 5.7-7.8, to remove suspended solids in the aqueous solution; when the pH is 6.4-7.8, to deal with high turbidity wastewater and low turbidity wastewater. The same commonly used amount is 15-100 mg/L. The applicable water temperature is 20-40℃, when the water temperature is lower than 10℃, aluminium sulphate hydrolysis is difficult, it is not suitable to use Aluminium sulfate as flocculant
