Air circuit breaker switch

The air switch is named because it uses air as an arc extinguishing medium. It is also called "automatic air switch" or "automatic air circuit breaker". It is an electrical appliance that has both manual switch function and can automatically perform loss of pressure, undervoltage, overload and short circuit protection. It can be used to distribute electrical energy, start asynchronous motors infrequently, and protect power lines and motors.

The air switch uses air to extinguish the arc generated during the switching process. It is only a type of circuit breaker. There are also circuit breakers that use insulating oil, vacuum and other inert gases (sulfur hexafluoride gas) as arc extinguishing media. Their main differences are as follows.

1. Different functions

Air switches are generally suitable for small current circuits, mainly for isolation and protection; other circuit breakers such as vacuum circuit breakers and SF6 circuit breakers are generally used in high voltage and high current circuits. They are often used as operating appliances for power outages, power transmission, and connecting and disconnecting loads.

2. Different interrupting capacity

Air switches generally have little ability to withstand and disconnect short-circuit currents, while other circuit breakers have good arc extinguishing capabilities and can withstand and disconnect short-circuit currents.

3. Different voltage levels.

Air switch is a low-voltage circuit breaker, generally suitable for voltages below 500 volts; vacuum circuit breakers are generally used in 6kV high-voltage systems, and SF6 circuit breakers are generally used in 500kV substations.

4. Different arc extinguishing media.

Air switch uses air to extinguish arcs; arc extinguishing media of other circuit breakers include insulating oil, vacuum and other inert gases (sulfur hexafluoride gas).

5. Different supporting facilities.

The supporting facilities of air switch are relatively simple; the logic control supporting facilities of other circuit breakers will be more complicated.
