Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) is a biocompatible and biodegradable copolymer widely used in drug delivery, tissue engineering, and medical device applications.

PLGA microspheres, made from poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), are biodegradable carriers widely used in controlled drug release, vaccine delivery, and tissue engineering. The degradation rate and release profile vary with the lactic acid (LA) to glycolic acid (GA) ratio. PLGA 50:50 degrades the fastest and is suitable for short-term release; PLGA 75:25 offers a moderate degradation rate for medium-term delivery; and PLGA 85:15 degrades the slowest, making it ideal for long-acting and implantable formulations. All types of PLGA microspheres exhibit excellent biocompatibility, injectability, and drug-loading capacity, making them ideal for targeted and sustained therapeutic applications.
