Compared with screen printers, pad printers have technical and cost advantages in printing multiple colors. Therefore, there are many more types of multi-color pad printers on the market than screen printers. The structure of multi-color pad printers follows the principle that each color of ink is matched with a printing system, but the change of the printing system is a major feature of the structure of pad printers:
Multi-color pad printers have fixed ink supply systems. The oil pan pad printer is mainly the movement of the scraper, and the oil cup pad printer is the sliding of the steel plate or the sliding of the oil cup. The ink will continuously fill the image pits on the steel plate. Pad printers are ever-changing, but the changes in the ink supply system are not obvious.
The design of the rubber head assembly has changed a lot. The traditional pad printer, whether it is a shuttle pad printer or a turntable pad printer, basically maintains the movement of the pad assembly forward and backward and up and down. The latest design of the 6-color pad printer adopts the idea of CNC design combined with the pad storage position, that is, the 6 and pads are fixed and stored on both sides of the machine, and the control spindle of the pad printing pad is installed on the sliding shaft of the three-axis servo, which can move freely forward and backward, left and right, and up and down. It first selects the pad from the pad storage position, then moves to the oil pan position to dip the ink, and moves to the top of the substrate for printing; After the first color printing is completed, the pad is cleaned, returned to the storage position, and another pad is replaced for the second color printing until the entire product is completed.
One machine is equivalent to 6 fully automatic monochrome servo pad printers, which are simple to operate and highly efficient, and are suitable for multi-directional, multi-angle and multi-color printing of complex products.

The pad assembly and its action mode are important components of the pad printer, which we call the printing system. The difference in printing systems has a great impact on the structure and function of the pad printer:
- Pad printer with translation printing system
The translation printing system is the most traditional printing system used by pad printers. The pads of all colors of the pad printer are installed on a fixed beam, corresponding to the oil pan or oil cup of different colors. Their actions are relatively simple, mainly ink dipping action, translation action, and printing action. They are widely used in pneumatic shuttle pad printers and turntable pad printers.
- Pad shuttle type and pad rotation type
Multi-color pad printers for products such as cloth, paper, and leather may require the pad to shuttle to achieve overprinting; some large-sized products such as bathroom products, household appliance housings, or the sides of furniture products require the pad to rotate at a specific angle.
- Pad rotation type combined with CNC action
The workbench and pad assembly of some multi-color flat turntable pad printers are distributed around the central axis. Some pad printers also have a pad assembly that installs multi-color pads on a freely rotatable shaft. The pads can automatically rotate to find the oil pan or oil cup of the corresponding color to dip in ink, and then find the printing position of the substrate for printing.
The same pad assembly combined with CNC action pad printer stores different pads in a fixed position of the pad printer, and then drives the pad seat to find the corresponding pad for installation according to the set program, and then dips in ink and prints. Every time a color is printed, the pad will automatically find the pad of the next color, replace it, and then dip in ink to print another color.
The complicated action of the pad seat makes it easy to perform multi-color pad printing at multiple angles, multiple directions, and multiple regions for a complex-shaped product, making the pad printer more powerful, but also making the program, adjustment, and after-sales service of the pad printer difficult.
