A Chinese manufacturer of industrial robots, specializing in SCARA and six-axis robots, which are used in 3C electronics production lines.

Pain points and challenges.

The original connection scheme between the customer’s robot control cabinet and the mechanical body used a separation design featuring “power interface + signal interface.” Each robot production line required the simultaneous connection and disconnection of 2-3 different connectors. This made the operation of production line workers cumbersome, and frequent plugging and unplugging could easily lead to poor contact, causing production lines to shut down.

Solution.

Utilizes a 36W4 wire-type high density d sub connector, which is integrated within a single interface.

4 large-current terminals (30A): used for powering the servo motors in robot joints.

32 signal terminals (5A): used for transmitting signals such as encoder feedback and brake controller signals.

Implementation outcomes.

The time required for a single plug-in operation has been reduced from 3 minutes to 30 seconds, thereby enhancing the assembly efficiency of the production line.

The overall failure rate has decreased by approximately 40%. The hybrid interface design has reduced the number of external cable connections.

The customer has now fully transitioned to the 36W4 solution in their latest generation of products.
