The flange yoke connects the drive shaft to the inter-axle differential input shaft. It carries full engine torque through a 31-spline bore and a 4-hole end-face tooth pattern. When the splines wear, the flange develops rotational play — the clunk you hear when releasing and re-applying throttle. When the bolt holes elongate, the drive shaft shifts off-center and vibrates. Either condition damages the differential bearings and the drive shaft universal joints.

Surface Treatment: Forged 40Cr alloy steel body. 31-spline bore precision-broached. 4-hole end-face tooth pattern ground for full contact. Bolt holes drilled and chamfered at 15 mm. Protective coating for corrosion resistance.
Manufacturing Process: Forged blank, rough-machined, heat-treated, then finish-machined on spline bore, 180 mm OD, and end-face teeth. Spline bore broached to 31-tooth spec and inspected with spline gauge. End-face teeth ground for full companion flange contact. Bolt holes drilled at 15 mm and chamfered. Inspected for spline fit, tooth contact pattern, and bolt hole position.

Installation Position: Mounts on inter-axle differential input shaft at middle axle. Retained by twelve-point nut torqued to 1050 ± 50 N·m. Drive shaft companion flange bolts to end-face tooth pattern. Pinion bearing preload must be checked with pointer torque wrench after nut torque.
Product Principle: The flange transmits torque through two connections: a 31-spline bore that engages the input shaft, and a 4-hole end-face tooth pattern that bolts to the drive shaft companion flange. Splines carry rotational torque. End-face teeth maintain concentric alignment. The twelve-point nut clamps the flange against the pinion bearing shoulder, setting main pinion bearing preload. Any spline wear introduces rotational play; elongated bolt holes or worn end-face teeth allow off-center shift and vibration.
Diagnostic Note: Watch for: Clunking when releasing and re-applying throttle — rotational play in splined bore. Vibration through cab floor at highway speed increasing with load — elongated bolt holes or worn end-face teeth shift drive shaft off-center. Red rust streaks from flange bolt holes — bolts lost clamp load, companion flange fretting. Oil leakage at flange seal journal — worn seal journal. Drive shaft runout exceeding spec — worn end-face teeth tilt shaft off-axis.
Before replacing flange, check two conditions. First, input shaft spline condition — worn splines mean new flange develops play immediately; inspect for twisting or step wear. If worn, replace input shaft too. Second, pinion bearing preload shim — nut torque of 1050 N·m sets preload. If preload out of spec after new flange, change adjustment shim. Do not correct by varying nut torque — nut must be at full 1050 N·m for clamp load.
