Diagnostic Note: Watch for: Clunk when releasing and re-applying throttle — Z=42 spline worn, flange moving on shaft. Often mistaken for U-joint. Vibration increasing with speed and load — journals worn or shaft bent. Oil leak at input seal — 50 mm seal journal grooved. Grinding from bridge box — input shaft bearings failed from worn journals. Metal particles in bridge box oil — splines or journals wearing; drain and inspect.
Before replacing, check: First, drive shaft companion flange splines — if worn, new shaft will develop play. Second, bearing and shim condition — replace all bearings and set axial clearance to 0.5–0.8 mm during installation.
